Welcome to Franklin, Indiana!
Franklin Indiana is located Twenty miles south of Indianapolis and 90 miles north of Louisville, Kentucky, on I-65 and U.S. 31, is Franklin (population 20,000). Franklin is named after one of our nation's founding fathers, Benjamin Franklin. Franklin, located in the heart of Johnson County, serves as the county seat. Its location has allowed it to maintain its small town identity and integrity while benefiting from the growth and economy of Indianapolis.
Franklin College is a private liberal arts college that was opened in 1834 by a group of Baptists, making it one of the oldest colleges in Indiana. In 1842, it became the first college in the state of Indiana to admit women. Since then, several notable alumni have emerged from Franklin College, including Academy Award-winner Robert Wise and the founder of Save the Children Foundation, John R. Voris.
